How To Be Polite

Changing The World, Part Two...
A One Question Etiquette Quiz

QUESTION ONE
Initial Action:
You receive an invitation. Could be verbal, printed or just via email. You are invited to attend something. Anything. Be it coffee, a playdate, a social visit. Someone specifically requests your presence and puts forth a date, time and requests you respond.

Reaction:
multiple choice, please pick one:
a) ignore request. Email person after with vague references. Apologize. Know that you are friends on Facebook and the invitee has seen you reply to other messages and watched your farmland chickens cluck.
b) have the simple courtesy to hit reply (it's the button at the top of your email) and say "Love the idea, sorry I can't make it." Do it with notice so the person isn't preparing food, arranging furniture or preparing a craft for your child. Do it with enough notice that you appear gracious vs rude.

Scoring your Quiz
If you picked A, likely this post is directed at you.
If you picked B, well, good for you. You haven't pissed me off today.

Love this. People (especially GROWN UPS) who forget how to RSVP has long been one of my pet peeves.

I have a childhood friend who when I was planning my wedding, simply assumed that I knew that OF COURSE he was coming to my wedding. But since he didn't send in the little self addressed stamped envelope...and I'm not a mind reader...I had to resort to sending a great big fax to his office asking in giant letters if he was coming to my wedding. Obnoxious? yes. But what's a girl to do? :)
