I sent someone a note the other day, and on the back on the envelope I wrote something something "2 U" instead of "to you."
She called me a a couple of days later. "Were you serious?" she said. "Because if you were, it makes me feel completely different about you. It adds a new dimension to what I thought I knew about you."
Of course I was kidding.
"It was irony" I said. "Of course I was kidding".
"Thank god" she burst out. "Seriously, I really had a problem with it."
"I wanted to write 4-eva or something but I didn't have the right set-up. God yes, I was kidding."
"Seriously. Good. Because that would have really said something about who you were."
"Like finding out I dot my 'i"'s with hearts?" I asked.
"Exactly" she said.
I completely see her point. I have a HUGE issue with people who use Nazi for strict.
"We're real sleep nazi's" someone said to me last week.
Really?
Eww. I just think it's like, wow. nice comparison that, comparing yourself to people who killed, what, millions? Ruthlessly? Tore families apart? Killed based on racism? Tortured? Nice. Classy with a K.
According to wikipedia - On TV.com, users rated The Soup Nazi the best ever episode of Seinfeld. It is also the top rated Seinfeld episode on IMDb.
Hmmm.
I get that Seinfeld made it funny and that Soup Nazi is part of our culture. I just think the use of it in conversation is faintly disturbing.
And yep, it does make me feel differently about her.
