Apples Off The Same Tree

An Email From My Sister...

D,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I can’t even begin to imagine how you & Doug feel. I assume most people can’t and since we are a culture of opinions I thought I might try and help you as best I can in handling what is coming your way.

C=Comment R=Response

C: It was God’s will, there was probably something wrong with the babies
R: Really? I forgot God only let people have healthy babies.

C: My friend/sister/cousin lost a pregnancy and went on to have 4 kids!
R: Wow – great for her. I’ll let my doctor know.

C: Just be thankful you have Ellie
R: My Goodness! Now that thought NEVER occurred to me. No time like the present to be thankful I have her.

C: You can try again
R: Sure we can. More trauma to the cervix will definitely increase my chances of carrying full term. It’s like a muscle, exercise it and it’ll toughen up.

C: You are lucky it happened early and not later.
R: Yes, we are. Because they were just my babies now and later they would have been my babies. Oh – hey, that’s the same thing right?

C: My friend from work was pregnant with twins. She lost one, I know how you feel.
R: Thank you, I am sure it’s exactly the same.

C: Well, you knew there were risks because of what happened with Ellie
R: True, but had I not taken the risk before – there’s be no Ellie. Hey that reminds me, I am thankful for her!

C: You really shouldn’t tell people until your safely past 12 weeks anyways.
R: Because the fewer people that know the stronger my body is?

C: Now you can focus on diet and exercise to prepare yourself better for the next time.
R: Right, overweight lazy people don’t have healthy pregnancies.

C: Some families are meant to just have one child. I am an only child.
R: And some parents teach their children not to make everything about themselves.

C: Maybe if you try again you’ll have twins!
R: Yeah, that’s what I was hoping for - Advanced Maternal Age, Incompetent Cervix, Twins.

C: I am sorry this has happened to you. I’m here if you need to talk. I’ll listen
R: Thank you

Remember – if you want to borrow a Uterus for a few months the offer still stands. You know, I could certainly use some healthier choices in my life and that’s one way to make changes. Besides – imagine the blog entries of the future!

Love,
Me
