Thx to those that asked for Ellie's list.
I wouldn't be me if I didn't say it...please go small! Ellie doesn't need to be treated “the same” or have “equal” money spent on her. One of something is perfect! Even if it only costs a $1! Also - toys can be found at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Building 19, Costco, or even - my favorite - craigslist. (Virtually 80% of Ellie's toys and books are from yardsales, CL and toy swaps.) I would be thrilled for her to get something recycled or preowned. You can wrap it still, she'll love opening it.
Having said that, for those that want to buy new, here's a list of some things we like from Amazon and IKEA. (then there was a link)
Ellie is also interested in potty chairs (all her friends have them) and we are looking at a youth chair from The Mill Store. (Hints for Grandma's V & R) She likes: chunky puzzles, the lace up puzzles, puppets, books that you can "touch" and feel, and things that you can manipulate including toy cars with no small parts. We both like coloring books and the rolls of plain doodle paper ($2 at Christmas Tree Shop Grandma L). Anything that's Melissa and Doug or Montessori based is good too.
She's all set for shoes and socks, clothes (24 months/2t- 28lbs31"), crayons and stuffed toys/dolls. She doesn't have pierced ears or wear jewelry. It should go without saying but: no to any disney princess anything. And that's that. I know, not very compelling.
Email if you have questions...
Thx - Deb
ps
Ellie loves Fisher Price Little People and WEEBLES toys that do something (spin/roll/whir). BUT! I don't allow them in the house unless they were preowned. (Yep, let me just go get me a whole foods sack and stop shaving under my arms)So if anyone wants a FUN challenge, we are happy to receive a used toy or one dug out from your own house. Just look - you can hit http://boston.craigslist.org and search WEEBLES. See? TONS of cute stuff. Preowned. Good for the planet, good for the pocketbook, good for Ellie.
Who sucks more then Mommy, eh?
