BOOK CLUB GUIDE - Discussion
When Doug lifts the lid on the pot, why do you think that annoyed the narrator? Did this information further the plot line?
We hear the narrator reference Ellie yet Ellie does not having a speaking part. Why do you think that is? Is Ellie essential to the scene? How do you think Ellie contributed to the tension in the kitchen?
A Conversation with the Author
How much of your material do you get from real life?
Almost all of it actually. Most of my posts are about everyday things. Conversations all couples have, daily living.
You seem to make Doug the straight man at times, at others, the bad guy. Is your relationship THAT contentious?
No. Not at all. Actually we quite happy. I just enjoy poking fun at him. Outside of my writing I thank him daily for being a good husband, a good father, a good friend, and, as old fashioned as it sounds, a good provider.
Why do you call it Raisins in the Sun if it's about grapes?
Well, I had to edit the post to make it relevant but the truth is, the grapes we were eating were green. At the same time, we had a bag of Sun Made Raisins in the counter. On the front of the bag is a young lady with green grapes - yet the raisins are darkpurple. Doug and I explored how this was possible. Do green raisins oxidize and turn the ruddy purple of grapes. Or are Sun Made's grapes purple to begin with and the box willfully misrepresents the color? Over 3 minutes of discussion ensued and was edited for the sake of post continuity.
So what's the answer? What color / varietal of grapes ARE the Sun Made raisins made from?
well, I googled it today and was unable to find an answer. Perhaps one of my readers will et me know.
